What is a Paralegal?

home-office-336377_640While lawyers assume the final responsibility for all legal work, they may delegate some of their more routine tasks to paralegals or experienced legal assistants. In fact, paralegals are assuming a growing range of tasks in legal offices across the country. One of a paralegal’s most important tasks is helping attorneys prepare for closings, hearings, trials and meetings. They may also help attorneys identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles and other relevant materials. As the law becomes more complex, paralegals are becoming more specialized. For example, a corporate paralegal may help prepare employee contracts, shareholder agreements and stock-option plans. Litigation paralegals may help analyze materials for internal use, conduct research and analyze evidence for hearings. The paralegals at Perkins Studdard are specially trained to work with our attorneys in Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury and Social Security Disability cases. Some specialize in the collection and review of medical records while others focus on certain types of cases. We are extremely proud of our staff. In addition to their specialized knowledge about Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury and Social Security Disability cases, each has acquired vital critical thinking, organizational, research, communications and interpersonal skills. Plus, just as important, each person is dedicated to the successful outcome of our clients’ cases.

Georgia’s workers compensation system can be very confusing.  You have to worry about getting the treatment you need and paying your bills while also worrying about not missing any deadlines that could cause you to lose your right to receive workers compensation benefits.

If you have questions, I would recommend that you try to get answers.  To find out more about how to schedule a time to talk to me about your workers compensation questions, just read this short article.
